The Project

TDC was appointed to replace three ageing steam calorifiers — in service for over 50 years — at one of the UK's largest power stations. As lead contractor, we were responsible for the design, procurement and installation of a modern replacement heating system.
From the beginning, the aim was clear: deliver wellness and recovery professionally, safely, and without exaggeration.

Our Delivery

Working within a congested basement plant room, our team replaced the old steam-heated calorifiers with a more efficient electric-heated system: three 100kW electric boilers connected to three 2,500-litre calorifier vessels, selected specifically to cope with the site's hard water. A phased installation approach, including temporary modifications, kept hot water supply running throughout the works, so the site's operations were never compromised.

The Result

All three electric boilers and calorifier vessels were successfully commissioned, giving Drax a modern, reliable hot water system that's far more efficient than the 50-year-old setup it replaced. The project was delivered on time and to the client's satisfaction.

The new electric hot water system has provided Drax with a modern, robust system.
